Friday Note 10/13

On Friday afternoon I introduced the class to Scratch Jr. on the ipads.  This is a coding app that allows students to program characters to perform tasks.  Coding has lasting benefits of building the following skill sets:

   Logical thinking
  • Problem solving
  • Persistence
  • Collaboration
  • Communication
  • Literacy Skills
After I shared with them some of the basics and let them loose to design and create, you could have heard a pin drop in the room.  It was so quiet as they started "dragging and dropping" codes.  After they had programmed some designs, then the excitement and conversations started happening.  They def. loved this activity and I can't wait to build upon these basics they were introduced to.  This is a free app, as are many other coding apps, if you would like to download it.  Your child will be able to teach it to you. :)
