Christmas Spirit

I'm sure you have all heard about Alvin our Elf by now.  He is watching our every move at school and reports back to Santa at night when we are at home.  The first things the kids do when they get to school is to look and see where Alvin is :)  We have been keeping a journal and making illustrations about his adventures.

Along with Alvin's appearance this week, we traveled to Mexico to see how they celebrate Christmas which led to us making a piñata.  We will be "breaking" it at our christmas party on Friday.

In math we sorted and grouped by tens christmas M & M's.

Here we are making our piñata.

Grandparents Day

We had a wonderful grandparents day on Wednesday.  The kids played Bingo, played some math games, showed them some class work and read them a book before heading down to the gym for a yummy meal.  Thanks to all the grandparents who came and to those who helped out and made some kindergartener's feel pretty special :)

Popplet App

Today we had our learning design coach, Mr. Slaubaugh, come into our room to help us become more familiar with the ipads and introduced us to an ipad app called popplet.  It was a great introductory lesson and the kids did great.  I paired them up and gave them an ipad.  After talking about the app and what I wanted them to do, I gave them each a letter of the alphabet and their job was to go around the room looking for things that started with that letter and take a picture of it.  They all did a fantastic job and here are a few examples...

For the letter D they found our friend Dalton, desk, dolhouse and dot.

For the letter T they found a toilet (insert lots of laughter here :), tricky word, tape and T Bone.

For the letter G we have a green string, a girl (Mrs. Nisly), Gabe and green leaves.

Happy Halloween!!!!!

What a fun day we had at school...  some of the staff dressed up as Minions from Despicable Me, complete with Mr. Poock as Gru!!!!  The kids loved it!!!!

Here is KA all dressed up in costumes...

Thank you to all who brought in food/treats for our party.  We really enjoyed all of it and the fruit was the first thing to be gobbled up!  :)

We had a great math lesson...  We started off by reading a book, "How many pumpkin seeds."  We made an estimate as to how many seeds we thought would be in the pumpkin, dug them out, grouped them into groups of ten, and then counted them.  We ended up with 440 seeds!!!!!  More than we thought for sure!
