Friday Note 9/15

Some happenings from the week...

We played memory with rhyming words.  The students are doing a great job with their rhyming words.

Pam Holz, Washington County Naturalist, visits Kindergarten once a month to teach us all things nature.  This month she came and read us a story about the skull alphabet and even brought some skulls for us to observe.  It's always a treat when Pam comes.

To decorate our school and show some MP pride, we made some MP posters, decorating them with patterns in black and gold.

We also had some high school athletes come read to us (this one happens to be my daughter :)

One of the biggest treats this week was when the ice cream truck came and gave us free ice cream!!!! Thanks so much to Shaws Ice Cream Adventure for your kind gesture to all the students at Mid-Prairie West Elementary.

Showing off our Golden Hawk pride ~ I just love this picture!

For International Dot Day we celebrated by reading The Dot by Peter Reynolds, made a dot pictures using 5 black dots (the book will be visiting everyone's house soon), had a fun "dot" snack and the best of all ~ dot a picture of a dot and made it come to life using an app called Quiver.  I sent home an extra sheet so if you want to download the app (it's free) you can.  There are a lot of fun coloring pages you can print and color.  It's pretty cool.

Friday Note 9/8

Wow ~ what a great week we had with lots of excitement.  We enjoyed a visit from Mrs. Seward, one of the districts learning and design coachers.  She talked to us about Ipad's and how to take care of them.

We also practiced working in groups, rotating to different stations.  This will eventually lead to our Daily 5 work.  We did puzzles, iPads, looked at big books and played games.  I heard this was a favorite part of the day.

It's always a fun time when the principal stops in for a visit.  Look at all the love and laughter on their faces!

In math this week we worked on learning our shapes with the
pattern blocks and we talked about a big word "attributes" when sorting buttons.

First few days

We are so excited for a great school year together.  These first few days we have already learned many new friends names and some rules and expectations.

On Friday we read a book about some pirates who went on an ABC hunt, then we went on our own ABC hunt.  The students did a great job of finding uppercase AND lowercase letters.

We read the story rainbow fish and discussed the importance of sharing.  Maybe one of the most exciting things we did this week ~ water color painting!

By Friday afternoon Bowie was exhausted :)

Mrs. Hunter, our district's curriculum and instruction coach, joined us for some silly songs.

Children's Museum

We had a great day at the mall!  The rain changed our plans a little, but we still had a fantastic day.  The students were so well behaved ~ I was so proud of them.  Enjoy the pictures.
