Misc.

Playing catch up on the ole' blog with some misc. pictures I have taken.

The first week we had a Chicka Chicka Boom Boom theme and during math we cut out triangles and trapezoids to make a coconut tree.

Using our fine motor skills to tear tiny pieces of paper to fill our names like a rainbow.

We will be tie dying our t-shirts on Friday.  Last week we met a 5th grade friend who helped us rubber band our shirts, then read us a story.

Rylee brought us in a very special treat last week ~ APPLES from her tree.

Pam Holtz also visited us last week and read to us a story about animal skeletons.

Introducing Centers

Introducing Centers ~ We started our centers out pretty basic to give the kids the idea of where the centers are and how we rotate.  They did an awesome job!!!!

Our retiring principal

We have had some fun with Mr. Parrott this week doing some "pranks" to his office.  Today when he walked in we had filled it with some balloons (some might have been filled with confetti too :)  We sure are going to miss him!!!!!

Each class made a book for him and then we read a couple entries from each book.  Kindergarten wrote about what they think Mr. Parrott will do when he retires... work at Subway, go to Hawaii and work at Menards, etc.  There were some good ones.

We played a video for him found here...

Then we told him we had one more surprise for him (he was pretty nervous ;)  We sat him in a chair, put a blindfold on him, counted down from 3 and sprayed him with silly string.  The kids LOVED it!!!!  It was a great time and memory for them.

Kidblog video

On Friday we spent some time with our 5th grade friends reading through comments and commenting back.  The kids just loved reading all the comments friends, family and teachers made to them.  I can't tell you enough how impressed and proud I am of them.  I think back to the beginning of the year when some of them didn't know alphabet letters, let alone the letter sounds.  Now look at them!  They are reading books and writing blogs ~ they are amazing!!!

If you haven't already, make sure you send out the blog to all family and friends so they can read about all the fun things we are doing :)

Fun filled Wednesday!!!!

I'm sure you heard by now that Mid-Prairie was the winner of the Live Healthy Iowa Challenge.  I had the opportunity to go to Des Moines a week ago Wednesday and attend the ceremonies.

Here we are planking on the stairs of the capital :)

Governor Brandstand making some comments.

We also got to tour the State Capitol led by Jared Klein.  It was a fun afternoon and I am so proud of our school!

This past Wednesday we had a very fun, busy day.  We started off by walking to the park and playing with our 1st grade friends.  We then walked to Parkview nursing home and delivered some May baskets.  When we got back to school we listened to a story about our Earth, talked about why it's important and planted a seed led by Pam Holz.  To finish the day we walked to the top of the hill and got to see some of Mrs. Fishers family's farm animals.  What a FUN day we had!!!!!

Kidblog

We are BLOGGERS!!!!!  When I thought about starting up a blog for the kids to share their thoughts and illustrations, I had no idea how it would go.  I was amazed at how they took off with it and are doing such a great job.  Mr. Frank Slabaugh came in and did a couple lessons on what a blog is and showed us the apps we would be using.  You can check out their work here...

Please send this out to any friends and family that you would like.  We would love if you and any family members would leave us some feedback.  In the comments sections let us know what you like, what you can relate to or what you wonder (make sure to sign your name).  (I will be approving all comments to keep this safe :)  You may comment on any students blog.  The students look forward to the comments and it is what keeps them writing.

In Math we have been talking about 3D shapes.  This last kidblog entry the students made their own avatar, choose a 3D shape, took a picture of it and recorded their voice as to what made it a certain shape.  They did such a wonderful job with this assignment (and had fun at the same time :)  Not everyone's is uploaded yet.  Hoping to get the rest done Monday.

We had a visit from Kari at Hills Bank with some baby chicks.  Another sign that spring is coming :)
